 Google doesn't work

And neither does your machine gun approach that leaves you open to market pricing & scams. Not to mention Google is full of automated platforms and sponsored ads, it's impossible to know who is a legitimate connection.

 Build your little black book

Stop worrying if you will make the wrong choice, pay too much, or go through the wrong channels. We will show you where to go. It shouldn't be a matter of which agency has spent the most on Google ads, to find the right connection.  We've got them right here.

Are you constantly asking in groups for contacts or connections?

True, many of our friends have great contacts and it's always helpful when they share. But what if you had your own little black book and didn't need to rely on random strangers' recommendations on Facebook?

The last Event Managers Network attracted:

  • 52% full time & 42% part event planners
  • 58% planners + 42% suppliers
  • 21% company owners
  • 65% company employees or freelancers

You will leave this event with key contacts who you will be able to call on, the next time you're working on your event.  No more having to rely on friends or random strangers on the internet.  Your contact list is your most valuable asset.

The Lineup

Your Little Black Book Starts Here...

We've brought together three of Brisbane's industry insiders to give you the tips that will help you build valuable connections across the entertainment industry, ready for your next project.

Dave Sleswick

Creative Director and Co-Owner of The Tivoli Group - The Tivoli, The Princess Theatre and Roster Agency. He was the Founding Director of Motherboard Productions, and is the Festival Director for Open Season, an annual multi-arts event that takes place in Brisbane over winter each year.

Harry Upton

Events Director at the Tivoli Group with a history in festival roles like Splendour and Falls. He has been a PCO, managed university events and sponsorship and has dipped his toes into just about every area of the industry. If Harry doesn’t know them, then they’re not worth knowing!

Luke Kennedy

Australian recording artist Luke Kennedy shot to international attention in 2013 as Ricky Martin’s grand finalist on season two of television phenomenon The Voice Australia. With extensive international touring experience Luke is also a key presenter and performer for Little Red Co.

The Princess Theatre Brisbane

The Gallery Room

At 133-years old The Princes Theatre reigns as Queensland's oldest standing theatre. The heritage-listed building, which opened in 1888, has over the years housed a picture theatre, a rag merchant, a secondhand dealer, a paper wholesaler, an engineering firm, and most recently, a church.

The reopening of this iconic destination was helmed by The Tivoli owners Steve Sleswick, Dave Sleswick and Simon Waide, alongside prominent Brisbane businessman Steve Wilson.

Following meticulous and faithful restorations, The Princess reopened to the public in 2021 and now boasts a state-of-the-art performance auditorium designed for a standing capacity of 900 and a seated theatre capacity of 500. It also features four bars, a public cafe, private event spaces, a rehearsal room and an outdoor courtyard.

About the Organiser

Hey, I'm Sally and I've been an event producer in Brisbane for many years.

The Event Managers Network was started by Genevieve Deaconos around 2017.  Gen had a desire to connect Brisbane's event community and provide opportunities to collaborate and learn from each other.  I believe whole heartedly in this mission and in addition, I think we have not only lots to learn from our contemporaries, but also people in other fields who gather audiences, such as music, festivals, dance, film and theatre.

I own the event company Red Lanyard, as well as coach and train people in the art of event planning, filling the gap between a full blown qualification, and doing things on the fly. I love everything about the event planning and delivery and I love nothing more than hanging out with and hearing from people who do the same.

Feel free to track me down in all the usual places and connect with me.  I can't wait to meet you.
